Press releases for St Dennis Parish Council meeting March 2005

The March meeting of St.Dennis Parish Council opened with the election of Mrs. Jenny Ellacott to the Council. Mrs.Ellacott is well known throughout the parish, having been Secretary for the Playing Field Committee for many years, and currently running the village website, and Councillors were very pleased to welcome her on to the Council, where she will be a valued member.

The Meeting was fairly quiet with no members of the public present. The Community Beat Manager was unable to attend, and Councillors expressed their concern that he could not be contacted by telephone or that it had not been possible to obtain a crime report for the last two months.

Mr. Higman reported on his work at the County Council, and in particular the latest developments regarding the Incinerator. Also the figures set for the coming years Council Tax. There was to be an increase of 5% overall, which would mean approximately 81p per week increase for a Band D property.

Mrs. Higman as Restormel District Councillor reported on her attendance at a recent seminar on affordable housing, the closure of the Minor Injury Unit at Penrice during the night and a coming visit to the skateboard centre at Mount Hawke with a view to a similar project for the clay villages.

Following a meeting in January with the Project Engineer for the Hendra Road footway, a further sign had been erected at the top of the road to indicate traffic calming measures, together with some minor changes to ensure pedestrian safety on sections of the pavement. Additionally, the proposed traffic restrictions (double yellow lines) had now been introduced at three areas in the village.

Reports were received and approved for Planning and Cemetery Committee meetings and a new general handyman/casual labourer appointed following the resignation of Mel Richards, who had been with the Council for 7 years.

Other items of interest were: Placing of additional litter bins in Hendra Road and on Trelavour Prazey, decision on payment of Councillors Allowances, election of representatives to the Hendra/Trelavour Community Group and the Fal Liaison Group, nominations for the Restormel Youth and Good Citizen Awards, agreement to enter into a project with Sure Start to provide a memorial at St.Dennis School following the need to remove some of the trees in the School Garden and reports of minor road repairs. Mr. Tony Orchard also received a vote of thanks from Councillors for his work in repairing the Playing Field goal posts; these would be re-positioned shortly. Work to repair the vandalism in the Playing Field would also be undertaken as soon as the necessary replacement parts were available.

There being no further business, the meeting closed at 9.40 p.m.
